WSBK Press Race Recap & Results – Misano

Misano (Italy), Sunday 12 June 2011 – A sun-kissed 61,000-strong Misano crowd witnessed the 2011 phenomenon that is Carlos Checa as he took an imperious double win for his Althea Racing Ducati team at the San Marino Round. This was his third double win of 2011, on a day when he had to compete in three races to win two of them. The first 24-lap Superbike took place as planned but the second race at Misano was halted and then restarted, over 14 laps, after Marco Melandri’s bike lay across the track and another rider fell off directly behind, prompting fears of an oil leak. The first running of race two is now disregarded, with full points going to all riders who scored in the second running.

Behind Carlos, Max Biaggi overcame a highly disturbed practice and Tissot Superpole contest on Saturday to take two second places and at least stick in the slipstream of Checa in the points standings. It was a bad day for Melandri, even if he scored third in race one, as his inability to restart in race two means he leaves his second home race of the year with only 16 points compared to Checa’s 50 and Biaggi’s Misano haul of 40.

Kawasaki had its best single race of the year so far when Tom Sykes took the Ninja ZX-10R to fourth in race one, and he was on target for a similar finish in the originally scheduled race two, until the red flag came out. Eugene Laverty had one good and one not so good race, running his Yamaha World Superbike Team machine to fifth, but then 13th, after he fell from a potential podium placing.

Haslam had another gritty and hard-fought day of racing on his BMW Motorrad Motorsport machine, falling in race one and defending his places hard in race two, to finish fifth. He is also fifth in the championship. Leon Camier was up and down at Misano as well, as the Aprilia Alitalia rider scored sixth in race one, but fell behind Melandri in race two. He is sixth in the rankings, one up on Michel Fabrizio, who had a mirror image reflection of Camier’s day, finishing sixth in race two, but falling to a no-score in race one.

Castrol Honda rider Jonathan Rea was unable to race at Misano, as he had a fast crash in warm-up, which caused a clean break on his right wrist, ruling him out of any further action.

Race 1

Checa took the race win, his seventh of the year, as he dominated the second half of the first race at Misano, heading long time race leader Biaggi by 0.9 seconds. Third was Melandri who slowed in the final lap but still took a clear third. Behind, Sykes took his best finish of the year in fourth, after a last corner sort-out with fifth place rider Laverty.

Carlos Checa: “We were a little bit in trouble at the beginning, with a few riders between me and Max, he was strong. I was able to get second slowly, catching Max. I could overtake him, and then put some gap between me and him. At the end the result was very good.”

Max Biaggi: “We should have done two races with ten laps each, then I would have been OK! Really it has been tough, a very hard weekend. I did my best, trying to push but Carlos had some lead and it was very difficult to get closer. That’s the best I could do, no better than second.”

Marco Melandri: “I didn’t have a good start so I had to push very hard to catch those guys at the beginning. After three laps I didn’t have the right combination of rear and front tyre so I couldn’t brake well. It was impossible to catch the front guys so I controlled the gap with those behind”.

Results: 1. Checa C. (ESP) Ducati 1098R 39′03.132 (155,828 kph); 2. Biaggi M. (ITA) Aprilia RSV4 Factory 0.984; 3. Melandri M. (ITA) Yamaha YZF R1 17.124; 4. Sykes T. (GBR) Kawasaki ZX-10R 18.652; 5. Laverty E. (IRL) Yamaha YZF R1 18.929; 6. Camier L. (GBR) Aprilia RSV4 Factory 21.003; 7. Guintoli S. (FRA) Ducati 1098R 22.942; 8. Badovini A. (ITA) BMW S1000 RR 23.117; etc.

Race 2

Checa took his second win of the day, and his eighth of the year, to extend his championship lead over second place race finisher Biaggi. The first running of the race was nullified when Melandri crashed and his machine lay in a dangerous position on the racetrack, leading to 14-lap race, which determined all the places and full points. Third place was fought over to the last possible moment, with Noriyuki Haga (Pata Aprilia) and Ayrton Badovini (BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike) third and fourth respectively. Leon Haslam (BMW Motorrad Motorsport) kept his machine upright to take fifth.

Carlos Checa: “It was a fantastic weekend, we expected to be competitive but not at this level. We took the best at this track, and the team worked so well. In the second race we had different tyres, because it was hotter, and we made the right decision because the bike gave me an even better finish! After the race the chain broke while I was celebrating but it’s better than breaking in the race!”

Max Biaggi: “I think I did my best, pushing and pushing. I made a mistake because the bike was locking into the corner. I saved it but I lost quite a bit of time, then I was able to follow but not come close because Carlos had more speed. Maybe we didn’t have the same equipment as before, but I hope that in the future there will be some improvements. Two times second so we must be satisfied. The points gap between me and Carlos is a lot, but we now need a bit more.”

Noriyuki Haga: “Finally I’m back on the podium and I’m very happy to be here for the first time since last year. Today was very tough, before my bike wasn’t competitive, but we changed some settings. Half-way through I still had problems but for sure I really wanted a better finish. Badovini was very competitive today, I think he made a mistake at the last corner so that was lucky for me.”

Roman rider Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Ducati) scored a popular win and a new lap record of 1 minute 38.825 seconds at Misano, with the race finally red flagged with just over three laps to go and the results counted back to lap 10. Pole man Danilo Petrucci (Barni Racing Team Ducati) was second, 3.1 seconds behind Giugliano, and Lorenzo Zanetti (BMW Motorrad Italia Superstock) was third, 5.2 seconds back. Sylvain Barrier, Niccolo Canepa and Michele Magnoni were next up, in an almost overwhelming day for riders of Italian origin.

Results: 1. Giugliano D. (ITA) Ducati 1098R 16′36.317 (152,698 kph); 2. Petrucci D. (ITA) Ducati 1098R 3.180; 3. Zanetti L. (ITA) BMW S1000 RR 5.253; 4. Barrier S. (FRA) BMW S1000 RR 10.668; 5. The next three riders, Stefano Togni, Denis Sacchetti and Michele Conti were also Italian, but Sergey Vlasov joined his fellow countryman Leonov in the top six. No fewer than 29 riders took part.

Official Tyre Supplier

“A truly fantastic day of racing especially considering that the forecast rain on race day never arrived. A wet Superpole allowed Pirelli to see the performances of the soft Diablo Rain rear and slightly harder rain front, with Sykes (Kawasaki) taking his second pole of his WSBK career. Just a few dry practice sessions on Saturday gave WSBK teams limited possibility to setup their machines, since the Sunday qualifying was a bath of constant down pouring rain. Hard-compound SCR2 Diablo Rain tyres were supplied in order to guarantee excellent performance on this wet abrasive track and to keep riders’ confidence in such difficult conditions, considering the need for numerous changes in traction control settings. As always, Pirelli was prepared with full-rain, intermediate and Diablo Superbike slicks, a compliment of 1500 tyres for this USA round. Superpole’s variable conditions left two Ducatis and two Yamahas in the front row for race day. Cold temperatures overnight made for a cold but drying track for morning warm-up, but the cloud break showed promise. Even with 3 front and 3 rear solutions (SC1, SC2) available for dry racing, including last year’s race-wining tyres, 20°C on the asphalt and uncertain bike settings moved all riders to the SC1 mid-soft Diablo Superbike rear tyres for Race 1, the most performing choice for colder conditions. Still, some riders pushed too hard at the race start and caused increased tyre wear, accelerated also by various wet spots on the track. It was pole sitter and Best Lap winner Carlos Checa (Ducati) who used his Diablo Superbike SC1 tyres to lap consistently in the 1’49 and 1’50s, finally earning a 2,7 second win over Ducati riders Smrz and Guintoli, the latter his first podium of the season. Race 2 brought only one tyre change by Lascorz (Kawasaki) who switched to the A front, although many discussed changes with the sun out and a warming track. Aprilia riders Camier and Biaggi came back to fight in Race 2 for a 2nd and 3rd place finish, but the double-win rider Checa (Ducati) set the Best Lap of 1’48.827 and repeated his excellent results of three years ago at Miller Motorsports Park. Biaggi was proceeded by Laverty (Yamaha) and Fabrizio (Suzuki) to make 4 manufacturers in the top five.” – Giorgio Barbier, Racing Director, Pirelli Moto

Ducati Marlboro Team MotoGP Race Recap & Results – Silverstone

As had been generally predicted in weather forecasts, the British Grand Prix took place in driving rain, and Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi finished the race fourth and sixth, respectively. It was a good team result, as the Italian limited damage in a challenging weekend, while the American posted the fastest lap of the race and finished just off the podium.

Along with his team, Nicky Hayden found a very good setup for the wet, and the only thing that caused him to lose contact with the battle for the podium was the particularly treacherous conditions of the early laps, when he came close to crashing his GP11 on a couple of occasions.

Despite starting from the last row and not being completely comfortable with his bike’s setup, Valentino Rossi made up several positions and rode a controlled race, collecting ten precious points to retain fourth place in the series standings.

Nicky Hayden (Ducati Marlboro Team) 4th
“To be honest, I really liked my chances for a podium in the rain today; if you’d have told me before the race that I could have fourth, I’d have said, ‘No thanks, I can do better,’ but I’m not disappointed with my ride. I didn’t get a great start because the clutch was jumpy, and for the first few laps, it was hard to see and to get heat in the tyres. I had a big moment on the exit of Turn 1 and actually jarred my shoulder pretty good, but I tried to hang in there. I saw Colin in front of me for the podium, and I really pushed. I think that’s the first time I’ve ever had the fastest lap on a Ducati, which is kind of cool even if you don’t get points for it. Full respect to Colin a week after breaking his collarbone, but I still don’t like him beating me for the podium! Thanks to the team. It hasn’t been an easy weekend for us, but we kept trying and got a pretty good chunk of points. We’ll take it and move on.”

Valentino Rossi (Ducati Marlboro Team) 6th
“Without a doubt, this weekend was the most difficult so far this season, but we at least managed to do a good job of limiting the damage. Considering how we came into the race, sixth place is a fairly positive result that helps us to stay not too far from the top of the standings in fourth, which isn’t bad. We knew that my lack of experience here compared to the others would hurt us, but it’s also true that we haven’t managed to improve our setup as well as we should have. In fact, today Nicky managed to have a nice race and ride well, even setting the fastest lap, which demonstrates that the Ducati is competitive in the wet. We didn’t improve enough though, and that made it hard for me, as the bike was difficult to ride and I couldn’t push hard. We’re all responsible—me, the bike, and the team—so together we’ll try to improve and return to the level we were at in Le Mans and Catalunya as soon as possible, and then take another step forward.”

Vittoriano Guareschi (Team Manager)
“It was a very challenging weekend, but we still ended it with a fairly good team result. Nicky rode very well in the race, and if he hadn’t come close to crashing early on, I think he could have done even better. After a high-side like the one he had, which allowed Spies and Edwards by, you need a little time to re-find your rhythm. He rode better than anyone else in the late laps, but the gap was too big to make up. In any case, he felt good on the bike, as we managed to find a good wet setup that he liked a lot. Unfortunately, that was not the case for Valentino, who never managed to find a good feeling. We must figure out why that was the case at this particular Grand Prix, then return to the positive trend of improvements that we had been on since the first race.”

Difficult Race for Davies in Misano

Yamaha ParkinGO Team encountered their first disappointing race day so far in the 2011 World Supersport Championship. With Luca Scassa, relegated to watching the race from the team garage, Davies was presented with a window to create a gap ahead of his team mate and take the sole lead in the championship. The glorious sunshine in Misano today promised ideal track conditions for the British rider to capitalize on this opportunity but he was prevented from doing so due to an issue causing vibration in his machine present from as early as the the pre-race warm up lap. Despite the difficult circumstances, Davies put his head down and got off to an ideal start off the grid, putting him immediately in the lead. Struggling to maintain stability and position, Davies fell back to third place by lap five from where he fought hard with Parkes and Dionisi in the lead. By mid race the Yamaha ParkinGO rider began to suffer from a lack of grip but despite this continued to put on a strong battle before crossing the line in sixth place.

Davies and team-mate Scassa will be back on their YZF-R6 next week in Aragon, a track they successfully tested only a month ago. Scassa is looking forward to getting back on his machine after over five weeks and make up for points lost in Misano due to his refused entry. Scassa is now in third place in the 2011 WSS standings while team-mate Davies is in second place with 80 points, just five points behind Parkes. Yamaha remain top of the Manufacturers Standings with a 22 point lead.

Chaz Davies

Yamaha ParkinGO Team – 6th

“As soon I entered the first tight corner on the warm up I could feel there was a problem, the bike was vibrating quite a lot. I rushed back to the grid, told the crew that there was something wrong but there was nothing I could do about it at that stage. It was difficult to ride and push to the front. I also seemed to lack grip on the rear. I had a similar grip problem this morning but I was convinced the higher track temperatures this afternoon would make the difference. I’m disappointed that we’ve lost valuable points but I’m looking forward to Aragon next week.”

Third row start for Bautista at his home Grand Prix

Álvaro Bautista will start tomorrow’s Catalonian Grand Prix from the third row of the grid after qualifying in ninth place this afternoon.

Bautista (1’43.447, 29 laps) again made solid progress today as he prepared his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R for Sunday’s main event. His lap-times improved throughout the qualifying session as he worked with his team to get the best grid position for tomorrow’s race. Bautista’s ninth place equals his starting position from last year; when he went on to record his equal best season finish of fifth in the race.

Today’s qualifying was held in very overcast conditions, but the threatening rain clouds stayed away enabling the session to go ahead completely dry. Marco Simoncelli on a Honda took a career-first MotoGP pole position, with fellow Honda rider Casey Stoner second and reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo filling the remaining front row berth.

Tomorrow’s 25-lap race is the fifth round of this season and the lights will go out to signal the start at 14.00hrs local time (12.00hrs GMT), with Bautista aiming to give a competitive performance in front of his fellow countrymen.

Álvaro Bautista:

“It’s was a good day’s practice because we improved on yesterday’s rhythm and lap-times. I tried a different setting in the shock with the harder tyres this morning, but I didn’t like it too much, so for this afternoon we continued with the same setting as yesterday. I tested the hard front and soft rear tyres, but I didn’t really have a good feeling from the front, especially under hard braking when entering a corner, so I changed to a soft front and was able to get a good feeling and keep my place in the top 10. At the end of the qualifying session we put on a new set of tyres to make a good lap for the best grid position and I did my best lap alone – without following other riders. On this track if you follow someone you can get a good time, but I am happy with my time because in each practice I improved by one second. My feeling with the bike is still not 100%, but it is getting much better. I have a lot more confidence now than the first practice and I am getting more aggressive, so I hope to get the same feeling in the race! The third row is a good position and it is the same as last year and tomorrow – depending on the weather – we will have a good race. I want to say thank-you to my crew because they are working very hard to give me a bike that gives me the confidence I need after my injury. I will try to enjoy tomorrow’s race and hope that they enjoy it too!”

Paul Denning – Team Manager:

“Álvaro has done a good job to pick up the pace today. His self-confidence is starting to come back, and to qualify the bike only a second from pole – with the intensity at the front of the pack as it is – is definitely a reasonable result. The plan was for the season to really start here after his accident and it’s been difficult to know where we are after the injury in Qatar, so it will be a proper test tomorrow to try and translate the third row start in to a decent result.”

Yamaha Racing WSBK Race Recap & Results – Misano

The Misano world circuit was host to a dramatic race day today with both highs and lows for the Yamaha World Superbike Team.

There were no easy points to be had on the Italian race track today for Melandri and Laverty. After initially falling back to fifth from his fourth place start on the grid in race one, Melandri hastily regained position, tucking in behind Haslam and awaiting the opportunity to push to third. Struggling to maintain the pace the Italian was unable to fight for a victory and crossed the chequered flag in third place with a much desired podium at his home race. Team-mate Laverty completed the first race of the day in fifth place, just losing out on fourth position in the final stages of the last lap as Sykes took advantage of the Irish-man’s struggle with gradual tyre wear.

Race two was filled with drama as Melandri and Camier crashed out in the tenth lap, causing the race to be red flagged. Both riders were unable to re-enter the pit boxes with their machines in the time required by the regulations in order to be permitted to participate in the 14 lap second part of race two. Team-mate Eugene Laverty also experienced a tough second race. Following a perfect start off eighth place on the newly formed grid, Laverty shot into fourth place. After just one lap the Irishman overtook Haslam to take position of third place behind Checa, winner of the previous race before he unfortunately lost the front of the machine, causing him to crash out. Unhurt Laverty returned to the track and completed the race in 13th place.

Following the difficult race day in Misano, Marco Melandri will head to Aragon this coming weekend sitting in third place in the World Superbike standings with 150 points, 95 points behind Checa in the lead. Laverty still occupies fourth place with a total of 123 points, 17 points ahead of Haslam in fifth.

Marco Melandri

Yamaha World Superbike Team – 3rd, DNS

“It was a very difficult day, one to be forgotten. Not due to the crash, but mainly for the inability to compete. Even in Race two I was too slow to be as competitive as I should be. This morning I had difficulty riding the bike and struggled to get the podium. We made some changes prior to race two but that didn’t improve anything. The bike seemed to be completely lacking in grip from the beginning and I just suddenly lost the front.”

Eugene Laverty

Yamaha World Superbike Team – 5th, 13th

“We took a gamble with the rear tyre in race one and it was ok until about four laps to go. The left side of the tyre was completely worn which is very strange considering it’s a right handling track. I was very disappointed to lose fourth position just at the end. In race two once the red flag came out, I changed tyre choice and used the same tyre as in race one and immediately had better feeling with the bike. I thought I could fight with Checa and Biaggi in the lead but most importantly I wanted to pull away from the bunch behind and get a clear third. Unfortunately I lost the front and crashed out. We just have to forget what happened and look forward to Aragon. It’s a track we tested just recently and we should be strong.”

Andrea Dosoli – Yamaha World Superbike Team Manager

“A difficult race day today even if we managed to get a podium in race one with Marco and could have had the opportunity to be back on the podium again in race two before he unexpectedly crashed mid race due to possible traces of fluid on the track . It was a pity to have lost out on vital points for the Championship. Eugene, after experiencing an issue with the rear tyre in race one and the first part of race two was unable to demonstrate his potential, follow the leaders and earn a well-deserved podium. Unfortunately he lost the front of the bike and was unable to carry on as he aimed. We expected Biaggi to be strong and competitive and also Checa and Ducati who have won more than 75 per cent of the races here in the last ten years but we can expect the coming four race tracks to suit our machine better. We have to work harder than ever and be more competitive in the next round in Aragon, where we have good data from recent tests. We are leaving Misano knowing that we could have fought for a podium with both riders and with bitterness for the points lost and the further gap created with the leaders.”

Tips Berkendara yang Baik dan Aman Bagi Pengendara Pemula

1. Sebelum berkendara, persiapkan semua kelengkapan keselamatan berkendara seperti : Helm standart, Jaket, sarung tangan, sepatu yang menutupi mata kaki, dan pelindung mata.

2. Cek kelengkapan kendaraan Anda seperti: Spion, Lampu sein, Lampu rem, Lampu utama, Klakson dll

1. Air keras / Hidrogen fluoride (H2F)
2. Shampo Motor ( boleh merk apa saja)
3. Air tanah / Air ledeng
4. Tempat sabun colek / mangkok
5. Kuas / Sikat gigi bekas

Cara mencampur bahan – bahan di atas adalah :
Siapkan tempat sabun colek / mangkok
